BRNO. Aron Canet (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team) took back the Championship lead after producing a storming last lap to secure victory at the Monster Energy Grand Prix České republiky, the Spaniard beat title contender Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing) to the top step as the leading duo in the Championship finish 1st and 2nd, with polesitter Tony Arbolino (VNE Snipers) completing the podium.
Masia was able to get the better of Antonelli on the last lap, a good result for the Spaniard but it was an even better one for Antonelli. A stunning ride from pitlane to P5 was nothing short of sensational, and it’s a result that helps him stay five points ahead of Arbolino in the Championship. Ai Ogura (Honda Team Asia) finished sixth for the third time in four races, Andrea Migno (Bester Capital Dubai) grabbed his best finish since Le Mans to earn P7. Fenati finished eighth, just ahead of home favourite Jakub Kornfeil (Redox PrüstelGP) in ninth and Binder in tenth – the top 10 covered by just 1.7 seconds in the Czech Republic.
Lorenzo Dalla Porta: P2
“It’s been quite a difficult race and honestly at the beginning I thought ‘ok, this is not going to be my day’ because I had a couple of moments and I nearly crashed. Hopefully I was able to recover many positions immediately as I started from the 17th spot of the grid and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As the laps went by I realized I had rhythm and felt good, I studied my rivals and placed myself in front when I saw the possibility. I fought for the win but I didn’t expect the movement of another rider on the last lap. In any case the second position is a very good result because it's been such a demanding race and I’m happy considering, all the scenarios. Many thanks to the team, they’ve done an amazing job and I can’t wait to be in Austria to try it again!”
Tony Arbolino: P3
"It was an amazing and difficult race, with lots of overtakes from the beginning to the end. It was not easy to manage the deterioration of the tyre as, after only 6 laps, the rear slipped and the front closed a little bit. This penalized me in the last two laps, where I had difficulties in keeping the contact with the first two riders. I am happy anyway of my weekend and the goal, from now to the end of the season, is to be constant and continue working without losing the motivation".
Jaume Masia: P4
"Happy for the result but not 100% satisfied. Great welcome back after the summer break. Keep pushing! Thanks to my team."
